Preparations Preparing your WordPress Installation for Montage

× Heads up! Be sure to unzip the file "unzipp-egestas.zip" you've downloaded from your download page at ThemeForest before uploading. Uploading the ThemeForest ZIP file directly will result in a "Missing Style Sheet" error.

Installing the theme can be done two ways. You can upload the theme ZIP file using the built in WordPress theme upload, or copy the files through an FTP client.

WordPress Upload

  1. Login to your WordPress admin.
  2. In the "Appearance → Themes" menu click the tab "Install Themes"
  3. At the top of the page click, "Upload", then click the file input to select a file.
  4. Select the zipped theme file inside the wp-theme folder, "egestas.zip", and click "Install Now"
  5. After installation you will receive a success message confirming your new install.
  6. Click the link "Activate"

Egestas is using TimThumb among others to resize the images. TimThumb requires the GD library, which is available on any host sever with PHP 4.3+ installed. Use absolute paths for your script and images, if the images are not showing please set the cache folder permission to 777. Still encountering problems with your images, then please visit this post

Uploading by FTP

  1. Login to your FTP server and navigate to your WordPress themes directory. Normally this would be "wp-content/themes"
  2. Unzip the files from the zipped theme.
  3. Open it and inside the wp-theme folder find the folder "egestas" and upload it to your "wp-content/themes" directory.
  4. Check if the cache folder permissions are set to 777.
  5. After the files are finished uploading, login to your WordPress admin.
  6. In the "Appearance" menu click "Themes"
  7. Click "Activate" for the theme "Egestas"

Using the TitanInstaller

When you have a fresh install of WordPress your able to skip all steps and just follow this explanation. The installer is the perfect solution for all who's in a hurry and doesn't have time to read the docs or wait for support. With a few steps your new theme should look exactly like the demo.

The installer is the perfect solution for everybody who's in a hurry and doesn't have time to read the docs or wait for support. With a few steps your new theme should look exactly like the demo. There are a few thing you need to consider before using this great and powerful function. Each section has it's own explanation, useful links and warnings. Please read them carefully before clicking on any buttons ;)

First thing you need to do is to click on import theme content. Click on this button and wait a few seconds. When it takes longer then 5 a 10 second then you didn't prepare yourself properly. But you have to wait until you receive the message All Done

When the message "All Done" appears you've successfully imported the theme's content. Now click the "Activate all Settings" button to activate all options. That's it, all that's left is to ad your own images and text.

Homepage Setting up, the menu, slider, content and footer.

Heads up! The homepage has to be set up with different helpers, like slider manager, layout manger, widgets and custom menu. We will explain the complete process here. Remember that you don't have to create a home page, it's all automated and managed through the aforementioned elements.

Make sure your latest posts is selected

Our themes uses default WordPress front page for showing home content, so make sure to leave this option as default.

if you want to edit the code for home page, please goto theme folder and open the index.php file. It generates the Home Page. Do this only if you are comfortable with handling code and have some descent knowledge of WordPress.
Always make sure before starting that Your Latest Posts is selected since many are used to other themes which are using a static page to display the home page.

Custom Menus

When you've installed the theme with the titan installer then the menu is already active and populated. If not then it's real easy to add your own.

  1. Go to Appearance
  2. Now click on menu inside the Appearance menu.
  3. Create your menus for the top menu, the main menu and the footer menu.
  4. Select these menus and position them inside the theme location window
  5. Select your pages and drag to them the right
  6. Now organize your menus by dragging them to the desired location and don't forget to hit save when your done

It's really easy, only thing to keep in mind is to stay focused and don't go over it when your in a hurry since it's a rather complex and time consuming process to fill in all your menu items.

Home Slideshow

With our slider manager your able to create as many sliders as you need with different structures and formats.

How to add images to the homepage slideshow.

We're now explaining you what the steps are to create a homepage slideshow

  1. Open the Option panel tab
  2. Click on the Slider manager link inside the Option panel menu.
  3. Click on Add New Slideshow
  4. Now add title for the homepage slider, we use the grid slider as shown in the demo.
  5. Select the grid slider as shown in the demo or any other you want to show you need to select it here. Then proceed with the settings./li>
  6. Now add your images
  7. And press save and your homepage slider is all ready to go.

Layout Builder

With our Layout Builder you'r able to create almost any type of structured page with all kinds of elements inside. Working with this is really simple. Let's go over the most important parts.

The layout builder is pretty straight forward. The homepage layout is a fixed tab created to avoid any confusions. The other pages like about us, services etc. can be added by clicking on Quick Start.

  1. Open the option panel tab.
  2. Click on the layout builder link inside the option panel menu.
  3. Now select the homepage tab, this one is pre defined and can't be changed since this is the main homepage.
  4. Select your layout element and click on add element.
  5. Here you will see the slider layout element which let's add the sliders from the slider manager, cool huh. Add anything you need and anywhere you want ;)
  6. Now when you've populated the layout with all kinds of layout elements your able to drag them to their proper positions.
  7. All you need to do is click on save and your done.
Don't forget to hit save when your done, there's a autosave function present but it's always best to hit save to be sure.

Footer

The footer isn't really that difficult and therefore we keep it short. It works just like any other footer area. We have a footer tab inside the option panel from where your able to select if you want to show the footer or not. And your able to select the layout of the footer.

When you select for example the 2 column layout, two extra widgets areas will be created for you. When you select 5 columns layout for example then 5 widget areas will be created for you. Just populate them through the "Widgets" area and when your not happy with the layout then you can come back here and select a different column structure.

You can decide if you want a footer menu or not and your able to ad the footer copyright text in here.

Be warned! Wordpress saves sidebars by number instead of name, so when dynamically new sidebars or footer areas are added or deleted it's possible that WordPress swaps or deletes widgets.

Slider How to use the slider manager and add sliders inside pages and posts

Adding Slideshow to pages/posts

Follow this brief guide to understand the process of adding slides to pages en posts.

First create your slides and name them so that they are easy to recognize.

  1. Open the option panel tab.
  2. Click on the slider manager link inside the option panel menu.
  3. Click here to create new slides
  4. Enter a recognizable name for your slideshow and enter it here
  5. Click on Add Slideshow to add start creating your slider

Now in the next screen you have arrived to the settings of the slider and the section to add images or videos at the bottom. Once everything is created make sure to save your slider.

  1. Select your slider.
  2. Enter width and height but remember that this will not work when the slider will be selected as featured slider or inside a page or post.
  3. Transition time in between effects.
  4. Select your slider type here.
  5. Want the slider to be responsive or not, set it up here.
  6. Show the preloading icon.
  7. Show description or not, only this option isn't working for the Grid wall and Accordion Slider.
  8. Auto-play, yes or no. This option isn't working for the Grid wall and Accordion Slider.
  9. Arrow Controls, yes or no. This option isn't working for the Grid wall and Accordion Slider.
  10. Bullet controls, yes or no. This option isn't working for the Grid wall and Accordion Slider.
  11. Add images and videos in here and hit save and your done.

Now all that's left is to create your page and select the new slider inside the Layout Details. Yep, it's that easy, you just create a slider and select it inside a page or post like this. Then there are two more option to ad sliders but we will cover them in a later stage.

Creating a layout

The layout builder let's you build almost any page structure with pre-made and pre-designed elements. Usage is so easy that it requires very little explanation.

  1. Open the layout builder.
  2. Select the About us page, if it's not there yet then create a new page by clicking on Quick Start.
  3. Add your elements by selecting them from the dropdown and by clicking on Add Element.
  4. Drag the elements to arrange the way you want them.
  5. Click on the pencil icon to open the element and populate it, Click on the bin icon to delete this element..
  6. Hit save and your page is created.

Adding a layout.

All that's left is to create a page and select the layout you just created.

  1. Create a new page.
  2. Select the layout you've just created, don't add anything inside the content area since it will not show when a layout template is selected.
  3. When you want a matching slider then follow the steps explained from the slider manager and select it here.
  4. Make sure full width layout is selected.

Hit save and your page is created.

2. Sidebar Manager

The Sidebar Manager allows you to create dynamic sidebars on the fly, creating them is very easy. Let's get started.

Be warned! One important thing to note here is to keep sidebar name meaningful and do not add numbers or special characters as FIRST LETTER.

  1. First goto options panel menu and click on sidebar manager.
  2. Now enter sidebar bar name and click on create and a bar will be added in the bottom dashed area which represents a sidebar.
  3. When you are satisfied hit save and that's it. Now go to widget panel and after the footer widget holders you will see the dynamic sidebars.
  4. The sidebars can be arranged and if you want to deactivate a sidebar for some time and do not wish to delete it drag it to the right dashed area and hit save. Now they will be present but won't appear in WP widget panel.

All that's left is to populate the sidebars you've created and assign them to the appropriate page.

Portfolio Understanding the portfolio usage process

With egestas we've decided to simplify the portfolio section for a better and usable experience. Watch the screenshot and list below about how to use the single portfolio page. The portfolio page is made out of fixed columns with variable heights.

  1. Add portfolio item title
  2. Add portfolio item description, this will be hidden inside the front-end until a visitor clicks on the info icon. Then it will slide out.
  3. Add your images by clicking on the blue "add item" button.
  4. Open the item.
  5. Upload your image.
  6. Set image or video to full width or half width, remember that when you select half width you ned two half width option next to each other.
  7. Drag, edit or delete an item.
  8. Leave this by default.
  9. Add featured image which will show inside the portfolio page.
  10. Save the page and your done.

General Tab

General Tab contains all the settings which are common in all pages. These includes logo , favicon, analytics related settings. You can also add social links which are shown inside the top slide out menu of the theme. Breadcrumbs and pagination style can also be set from here.

Typography Tab

This tab contains all the font and title related settings. In the first section you can set font related settings which includes font families , font weights and body font size. The rest of the panels in this tab have font size related settings for each major modules like portfolio , blogs and generic heading settings.

The Heading font size settings applies only for the content coming from WP editor.

Image Resizing Tab

This tab keeps check of which resizing method is used. By default and recommended resizing is timthumb because it is memory and speed friendly. But sometimes there are circumstances when you are not able to use it, in that case you can switch to wordpress core resizer. It will work same as timthumb. If both do not work which is very rare set the resizing to none and no resizing will be applied .

When you use wordpress core resizer, always make sure that height and width of images are greater than the place you are using it. Like if you are using for front page slider make sure image sizes are greater than 980 x 350 else wordpress won't resize it.

Footer Tab

Portfolio Tab

This tab contains all the settings related to portfolio templates and single portfolio posts. You can select the number of portfolio items to show on a portfolio template here , set the character limits of description being showed. You can also create extra portfolio fields here.

In single portfolio options you can add your work related fields like Starting date, Assignment type etc. These will appear in portfolio edit/new posts as input fields ( at Bottom Right place under publish button section) . You can enter data there and they will automatically appear in front end.

Layout Tab

This tab contains all the layout related settings. You can switch on/off responsive layout , set boxed template mode on . You can also set the default layout mode for posts and pages.

Blog Posts Tab

This tab contains all the blog and single posts related settings. Here you can select use of excerpt or framework's default content limiter. Number of blog posts , meta info that appears under posts title in blog template. This tab also contains single posts settings which are self explanatory.

Visual Panel Tab

You can select between 10 predefined styles or activate the live visual styling function and create your own personal style without touching any css file or any backend related items.

Don't forget to deactivate the visual styling option when your done.

Translation How to work with PoEdit and use the po/mo files in the this theme

Inside this section you will find a small and very easy to understand guide about the way to ad po and mo files to this theme. Make sure you have translated your wordpress set-up. read through the following list about the way to achieve this. It's really easy, in some cases you can even download a copy of wordpress in your language.

Links

Next you find the po and mo file of this theme inside the lang folder inside the root of the theme. Download these files and open the po file with Poedit. When you've opened the .po file you will see a screen like shown on the right.

Next thing you need to do is to translate all items until the last line. After that you need to save the file as both .po and .mo. Rename it the the po and mo files to your language code. For example when your dutch and you have set the translate option inside your config.php to define ('WPLANG', 'nl_NL'); then you need to rename your po and mo to nl_NL.po and nl_NL.mo

Now you've saved your po and mo you need to upload them to the root of the theme. Not inside the lang folder but in the root of the theme. If this doesn't work then rename the lang folder to language and ad the files in there. Below you will find a few more useful links to get started with making the po and mo work.
